Meet In-Between Universe Painter Kyle Kilty

Artist Kyle Kilty identifies his work’s subject as the places and images, psyche and mediums of “in-betweenness,” and his monumentally scaled mixed media paintings embody that energy in the sweeping scope of their detail-rich chromatic fields. The work is also liminal in its emotional effect, being both hefty and grounded, but also attentive and obsessive—a closer approach to their topographical surfaces reveals such a proliferation of varied gestures that one can’t help but imagine the labors of their creation. Poured, marked, scratched, sketched, brushed, revealed, concealed, expressionistic, precise, fractal, figurative, evocative, elusive, geometrical, geological, patterned, pictorial. Even the figures which do arrive are enacting movement and multifaceted symbolism by their presence. Kilty’s work is now on view as part of the Hammer’s Made In L.A. 2023: Acts of Living biennial, where his approach resonates with its themes of performative processes and meaningful materiality.Kyl...Pulled over by the cops for speeding? You’re driving late at night after a long shift at work, tired, and accidentally breeze through a red light.Seconds later, you see blue and red lights in your rearview mirror — a police officer.Instead of anxiously waiting for the officer to come up to the window, you pull up an app and initiate a video call with the officer, who explains what you face.He then strolls up, possibly hands over a ticket, and you both part ways.Jackson Lallas is a founder of the app SafeStop, which allows drivers to have FaceTime-like calls with the police when pulled over. NEW YORK (AP) — Wall Street is drifting Monday, continuing a monthslong run where it’s slavishly followed the cue of the bond market. The S&P 500 was 0.2% lower in morning trading, coming off its worst week in a month. The Dow Jones Industrial Average was down 90 points, or 0.3%, as of 10:33 a.m. Eastern time, and the Nasdaq composite was 0.1% lower.Rapidly rising yields in the bond market have been knocking stock prices lower since the summer, and Treasury yields were swinging. Early Monday morning, the yield on the 10-year Treasury briefly topped 5.02% to touch its highest level since 2007. That helped drive the S&P 500 to an early loss of 0.8%.But the 10-year yield then eased back to 4.92%, compared with 4.91% late Friday, which helped stocks to recover their early losses. The S&P 500 briefly flipped to a small gain when the 10-year yield fell back to 4.90%.
