KENOSHA, Wis. (AP) — Family members of the U.S. Army private who sprinted across the border into North Korea said Wednesday that he may have felt overwhelmed as he faced legal troubles and his possible looming discharge from the military.Relatives described Pvt. Travis King, 23, as a quiet loner who did not drink or smoke and enjoyed reading the Bible. After growing up in southeast Wisconsin, he was excited about serving his country in South Korea. Now King's family is struggling to understand what changed before he dashed into a country with a long history of holding Americans and using them as bargaining chips.“I can’t see him doing that intentionally if he was in his right mind,” King’s maternal grandfather, Carl Gates, told The Associated Press from his Kenosha, Wisconsin, home. “Travis is a good guy. He wouldn’t do nothing to hurt nobody. And I can’t see him trying to hurt himself.”King was supposed to be returned to the U.S. this week to face military discipline afte...Antioch police execute search warrant in criminal investigation after boy thrown from carnival ride

SEATTLE — Why Sonny Gray hasn’t won a game since April 30 is probably a more complicated equation, but pitching coach Pete Maki thinks he knows the reason the right-hander lost his control after cruising through four innings on Monday.“It was just missing with his slider in the same spot,” Maki said Wednesday before the Twins’ 8:40 p.m. CDT first pitch against the Mariners at T-Mobile Park. “He kept missing with his slider to his glove side and down. So, he knows that. It’s just (about) making that awareness a little bit sooner.”Gray had a 2-0 lead and had thrown only 46 pitches when he started the fifth inning on Monday. After he retired catcher Cal Raleigh on a grounder, Gray gave up a double, a single, two walks and four runs. He also hit a batter. In the sixth, Gray walked the first batter he faced on four pitches and let him score on a wild pitch for a 5-3 lead. The Twins scored three in the ninth inning but fell, 7-6.“You just have one inning where you do the same thing over an...Schenectady officials offer NARCAN training while spreading awareness

Republicans and Democrats sparred over the significance of the tax crimes investigation into Hunter Biden at a House Oversight Committee hearing that featured two IRS whistleblowers, with the GOP arguing the president's son was spared from true justice while Democrats argued he was thoroughly investigated by a team formed under the former president and led by a Trump-appointed attorney.IRS special agent Joseph Ziegler and his supervisor Gary Shapley, who investigated Biden, expressed frustration over how U.S. Attorney for Delaware David Weiss and other prosecutors handled the investigation, alleging authorities slow-walked the case and showed preferential treatment to the president’s son. The House Ways and Means Committee had first privately interviewed the two whistleblowers, releasing transcripts just days after prosecutors reached an agreement with Biden to plead guilty to two charges of willful failure to pay taxes. The nearly six-hour hearing relayed little information not...Latest news
