BOSTON (AP) — The Red Sox know scoring nine runs in every game is satisfying — though not sustainable.“We’re probably not going to average nine runs a game all year long,” Kiké Hernández said after collecting two of the team’s 14 hits in a 9-5 victory over the Baltimore Orioles on Sunday. “But I do believe that’s what we’re capable of.”Coming off a last-place finish in 2022 and predicted to finish at the bottom of the AL East again this season, the Red Sox opened by beating Baltimore two out of three — scoring nine runs in each game. They are the third team in baseball history to score at least nine in three straight games to start a season, joining Cincinnati’s 1976 Big Red Machine and the ’78 Milwaukee Brewers known as “Bambi’s Bombers.”One day after amassing four hits, including a walk-off homer, Adam Duvall had three more hits — two doubles and a two-run single to break a fifth-inning tie. The free agent outfielder collected his sixth extra-base hit of the seas...Cape Cod Canal temporarily closed as Right Whales move through

Good things happen when the Nets take an opponent’s best scorer out of the game. It’s been the constant for a Nets team that extended its winning streak to three games with a 111-110 victory over the Utah Jazz on Sunday afternoon. The new-look Nets have won games in large part due to their defensive principles and ability to force talented scorers into poor shooting nights. It’s when they can’t get a handle on those stars, however, that the losses begin to pile. That has not been the case in recent games: The Nets held Trae Young to just 3-of-12 shooting from the field in Friday’s victory over the Atlanta Hawks. They limited Rockets guard Jalen Green to a 9-of-21 shooting night in the win against Houston, and in the must-win victory over the Miami Heat on March 25, the Nets held Jimmy Butler to just 6-of-13 shooting from the field and only seven trips to the foul line. And to make it three in a row on Sunday, the Nets had to neutralize Jazz All-Star Lauri Ma...Bruins earn 60th win in shootout over Blues

The Bruins have long maintained the position that the record for regular season wins doesn’t matter at all to them. But now? They might as well go for it, especially if they can keep winning while resting their vets. The B’s recorded win No. 60 on Sunday, in the most uncharacteristic and unconventional way. The B’s now need to win three of their final five games to set the record. The B’s blew a 3-0 lead, then had what they thought was an overtime game-winner taken off the board. But Charlie Coyle scored the only goal of the shootout and Linus Ullmark punctuated the 4-3 win over the St. Louis Blues with a glove snare of a Brayden Schenn wrister to end it.The B’s took a 3-0 lead midway through the second period, but they gave the Blues some life with a late second period goal and then old friend Torey Krug got St. Louis to within a goal at 9:47 of the third. Brandon Saad split the B’s defense and his shot yielded a rebound off Ullmark for Krug to put ...Jhony Brito impresses in big league debut as Bombers crush Giants

Hours before the Yankees’ series finale against the Giants, Jhony Brito could be seen moseying around the clubhouse with his AirPods in his ears and his phone in hand.Calm and collected, nothing indicated that Brito was about to make his major league debut, aside from the lineup posted at the room’s entrance. If the kid was nervous, he certainly didn’t look it.The same applied during the game, a 6-0 Yankees win, as Brito stifled San Francisco over five scoreless frames. The 25-year-old righty — thrust into the Yankees’ season-opening rotation strictly due to injuries — held the Giants to two hits and one walk while striking out six over 76 pitches.“I always thought about debuting and having a good debut,” Brito said postgame. “You have to be confident to do your job. If you start thinking of bad outcomes, that’s usually when things get out of hand.”Brito’s changeup gave the Giants fits all afternoon. It may come as no surprise to anyone following his activities since leaving office that former Arkansas Gov. Asa Hutchinson said Sunday he will join the race for the Republican presidential nomination.“As I’ve traveled the country for six months, I hear people talk about the leadership of our country, and I’m convinced that people want leaders that appeal to the best of America, and not simply appeal to our worst instincts,” the two term Republican governor said on ABC’s This Week.Hutchinson, a former U.S. prosecutor, congressman and head of the Drug Enforcement Agency, is a noted and outspoken critic of the current Republican front runner, former President Donald Trump.Trump, on Tuesday, is expected to turn himself over to authorities in New York for arrest and processing following his indictment over an alleged hush money payment made during the run-up to the 2016 presidential election. In joining the race, Hutchinson also called for Trump to step aside to avoid the spe...Trump plans Tuesday rally as NYC booking looms
