Whitecaps feel like underdogs in pursuit of Isobel Cup. That’s a good thing. Yes, the Minnesota Whitecaps are well aware of the cold streak they were on at the end of the regular season. It’s pretty much the only thing they heard about last week in the lead up to their semifinal matchup with the Boston Pride.Never mind that the Whitecaps were only a couple of wins away from playing for the Isobel Cup once again. Not many people were giving them a chance as they entered the playoffs on an eight-game losing streak — especially playing against the best team in the Premier Hockey Federation.“Obviously, it’s kind of been a story that we didn’t have the best lead up to the playoffs,” forward Sydney Brodt said. “We still believed in our team and knew it was a new game in the playoffs.”That belief propelled the Whitecaps to a major upset as they swept the Pride with a 5-2 win in Game 1 and a 4-1 win in Game 2. That set the stage for a winner-take-all championship between the Whitecaps and the Toronto Six on Sunday night at M...

Every other member of the rotation — Sonny Gray, Joe Ryan, Tyler Mahle and Kenta Maeda — has started an Opening Day game before, so when López found out the news last week when the Twins were trying to make backup plans to keep him on schedule in case he did not pitch a second game in the World Bas...
